Slovenia beats Serbia to become European basketball champion

Slovenia was elevated to the basketball throne of Europe, after a spectacular win over favored Serbia in the finals on Sunday evening in Istanbul.

Led by Goran Dragic, Slovenia scored 93 points, against Serbia’s 85. The Slovenian team shone in the second quarter, when they scored 36 points. Serbia was able to make up the difference in the third quarter and fought a narrow finish of the math, when Klemen Prepelic stepped up and won the game for Slovenia.

Goran Dragic scored 35 points ahead of Prepelic with 21 and won the MVP title. Luka Doncic, who is seen as one of the most prospective young players, got injured in second half and was not available for the finish of the game. Bogdan Bogdanovic  scored 22 points for Serbia.

In the battle for third place, Spain beat Russia with the same end result, 93 to 85.
