Vardar beats Nantes in the handball Champions League

Vardar scored its second win in the European Handball Champions League, beating Nantes from France 27 to 23 in a home game.

Nantes was an equal opponent only in the first third of the match, up until the 23rd minute, when the score was tied 8-8. Vardar then had a 5 to 1 stretch and ended the first half with four goals advantage – 14-10.

In the second half, the teams were mostly tied, with Vardar maintaining an advantage of between two and four goals. Rogerio Moraes Ferreira scored six goals, Dainis Kristopans added five and Ivan Cupic and Timur Dibirov four each. Arpad Sterbik had 12 saves at the goal.

Macedonian national team captain Kiril Lazarov did not score any goals for Nantes, due to the fact that the coach kept him o nthe bench most of the time.

The other Macedonian competitor in the Champions League, Metalurg, plays against Turkish Besiktas on Sunday, at the Boris Trajkovski sports hall in Skopje.
