Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations are priority for United States. U.S. will continue to provide strong support for the UN process for resolving the name issue of Macedonia in order to get the deserved place in NATO and the European Union.
This was stated by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland in a statement after hes meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.
Answering the question whether the expansion remains priority for NATO, Nuland said though, saying it especially applies to Macedonia.
-Today, we had very open and frank discussion and I want to thank the Prime Minister Gruevski for that. This is very significant moment for Macedonia and the region since it has just started new term. U.S. supports the vision that Macedonia has from Ohrid, as a country that is moving forward towards prosperity and democracy. I was very happy when I heard the Prime Minister that the reforms are moving forward, and it is essential for both communities to work together. The U.S. is especially glad that we were part and invested in that vision of integration, political, economic, and security. We talked about how we can enhance cooperation, including the regions of Macedonia where Albanians live in. In addition, that we can do with our investors companies and thereby strengthen the economic integration in the region, because it will bring strength, prosperity, and growth for both communities. When it comes to safety, we have good cooperation and I want to use this moment to express my condolences to the pilot’s accident, she said.
Nuland thanked the Macedonian army, the courage and the role played in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
